In Memory of William (Bill) George Klein

William (Bill) George Klein, 65, of Portland, Oregon passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Akron, Ohio on July 4, 1951. After high school in St. Joseph, Michigan, Bill graduated from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1973. He later completed a Master of Public Affairs, a Master of Business Administration, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Theory from Indiana University’s School of Business (1988). Bill was on the faculty of Penn State University’s Behrend College for 7 years before transitioning to work in the private sector. While Bill was completing his Masters degrees, he worked as an urban planner for the City of Indianapolis. Along the way, Bill married his soul mate and colleague, Mary Kelly, in 1986. Bill was the beloved father to sons John, Thomas, and Cyril. Bill was an avid bicycle commuter, a jazz fan, bokashi composter, wood worker, antique restorer, hiker and environmentalist. Bill loved his work, his colleagues, and his clients through Dean Runyan Associates, and he positively loved his life as in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Predeceased by his parents Carmen and Fred Klein and brother John F. Klein, Bill leaves, in addition to Mary and sons, two granddaughters, Naia and Phaedra of California, and a beloved nephew, Will Nosen and his family in Calgary, Alberta, as well as many loving friends and extended family across North America. At his request, there will be no funeral service other than private family and neighborhood gatherings.
