The visitor industry is the primary source of economic activity for the North Lake Tahoe Area. The local economy depends on visitors and owners of vacation homes who contribute significantly to many businesses that provide overnight accommodations, food and beverage service, and year round outdoor recreation opportunities, including the largest concentration of ski resorts in the U.S. Visitors traveling to North Lake Tahoe generate valuable sales receipts, earnings, employment and tax receipts locally and for the state. The North Lake Tahoe Area includes the communities of Tahoe City, Tahoe Vista and Kings Beach, as well as resorts of Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, Homewood, and Northstar.
